At the Speculative Fiction Academy you'll learn the kind of writing YOU love.

The Speculative Fiction Academy provides an environment where people interested in creating in the genre space can flourish. 

Students will  learn about the things that interest them – faeries and vampires, warlocks and shapeshifters, and everything in between. Learn about worldbuilding, character development, pacing, and tone as well as marketing concepts, branding techniques, publishing practices, and audio considerations.

Rhonda Jackson Joseph

Dean, Non-Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction
Rhonda Jackson Joseph is a Stoker Award™ nominated, Texas based writer with an MFA from Seton Hill University. She has had works published in various venues, including The Streaming of Hill House: Essays on the Haunting Netflix Series. When she isn't writing, reading, or teaching, she can usually be found wrangling her huge blended family. 

Nicole Givens Kurtz

Dean, Creative Writing Principles

Nicole Givens Kurtz is an author, editor, and educator. She's the recipient of the Horror Writers Association's Diversity Grant (2020) and the Atomacon Palmetto Scribe Award-Best Short Story 2021. She's been named as one of Book Riot's Best Black Indie SFF Writers. Her novels have been a finalist in the Dream Realm Awards, Fresh Voices, and EPPIE Awards for science fiction. Nicole has over 40 short stories published as well as numerous novels and three active speculative mystery series.

Jim Nettles

Dean, business
James Nettles is a University of South Carolina graduate and has a thirty-year career consulting for dozens of clients from startups to Fortune 100’s, media contributor, speaker on privacy, futurism, coming disruptive technologies and their impact on businesses and individual daily lives, and is a science fiction and fantasy author. He is also a founding partner for Author Essentials.

L. Marie Wood

President, Dean, Horror, Fantasy, Film/ New Media
L. Marie Wood is an award-winning psychological horror author and screenwriter.  She won the Golden Stake Award for her novel The Promise Keeper.  Her screenplays have won Best Horror, Best Afrofuturism/Horror/Sci-Fi, and Best Short Screenplay awards at several film festivals.  Wood’s short fiction has been published widely, most recently in Slay: Stories of the Vampire Noire and Bram Stoker Award Finalist anthology, Sycorax's Daughters. 

K. Ceres Wright

Dean, Science Fiction
K. Ceres Wright received her master’s degree in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University and her published cyberpunk novel, Cog, was her thesis. Her short stories, poems, and articles have appeared in award-winning venues. Ms. Wright is also the founder and president of Diverse Writers and Artists of Speculative Fiction, an educational group for creatives.
